Website delivery and security

Requests disclose technical information to the hosting server, including IP address, time, requested URL, response status and browser information. Server logging supports website delivery, troubleshooting and protection against misuse. Processing is based on the legitimate interest in reliable and secure operation (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Technical logs are retained only as needed for those purposes and applicable obligations.

Browser storage

Functional preferences such as map and timeline settings may be stored in local storage on your device. They are not sent to an analytics service. You can remove them through browser settings. This release includes no advertising, analytics tags or social tracking plugins.

JSON proposals and email

Submitting a proposal sends its contents and optional contact details over HTTPS to our server. Each accepted request is stored as a private JSON file outside the public website, before email delivery is attempted. These files remain available for manual review if email fails. The server returns a receipt only after saving; nothing is automatically published. A local JSON download and manual email remain available as fallback. Review personal or confidential information before submitting. Volucap processes received correspondence and source material to evaluate corrections and answer enquiries, based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR or Article 6(1)(b) where applicable. Personal contact details and original proposal files are restricted to authorized reviewers and removed when no longer needed, subject to applicable retention duties. Short-lived abuse counters use keyed hashes rather than storing IP addresses with proposals. Technical server logs are separate.

Source photographs and external links

When displayed, external source photographs are requested from the relevant operator or image host, which receives technical connection data. Source links and project videos open their original websites when selected; those services apply their own privacy notices. Company and professional research records use attributed public sources; contact us to request a correction.

Your rights

You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction and, where applicable, portability of personal data, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and complain to a supervisory authority. Contact the controller above. The general Volucap privacy policy provides additional company information; integrations described there are not all used by this static atlas.
